Do you have days when you seem to have been busy all day but haven’t achieved anything? You’ve just stemmed the flow of emails or queries from the team, but haven’t done anything that you wanted to do, or will move your business forward?
Mike and I recently needed to do some serious strategy stuff. To stop getting pulled into all of the normal day-to-day stuff, we booked a room in a hotel. (To be clear, I do mean a meeting room!)
Our phones and emails were off. We had a big table, a flipchart……and no interruptions!
And, guess what? We got loads done. We came away with some of our key workflows mapped out on the flipcharts, and a plan to streamline many of our systems. We also rejigged a number of responsibilities within the firm to add more improvements to our client service.
And everyone survived without us. We have a fantastic team who can look after any client queries or needs. And, when we’re not there, they feel empowered to make more decisions themselves.
So, when you need to get stuff done, it’s worth getting away from it all.
